Rajendra was born in Chandrapur, Eastern Maharashtra, in 1964. He used to draw as a child and as he had no particular academic leanings towards any other topic, he decided to concentrate solely on art. 
 
A graduate of Sir JJ School of Art in Mumbai, he is the recipient of several awards including one from the Bombay Art Society, and a handful from the State Art Exhibition. He has also participated in many group shows at venues such as the Sans Tache Art Gallery in Mumbai, the Habitat Centre in New Delhi, and the Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery in Mumbai. 
 
His work puts the current chaos of social issues under the microscope, addressing its different layers of contradictions and extremities. His working method involves borrowing references from the work of famous artists and changing, distorting, fragmenting it in order to create a new construct.
